ZRINK House Rules                                            (Revision and Effective Date: 5/29/07)

(At ZRINK, the House Rules supercede and override the USA Hockey Inline Rulebook where the two diverge on any given rule)

Game Format

§          3 Minute Warm-up ( Players are not allowed on the floor until the Referees from the previous game signal the teams onto the floor)

§          Two 20-minute halves, running time with the following exceptions (In an event of a long game, the Referee may adjust game clock to the wall clock, and run time) 

§          Goals. Allows Referees to communicate with the scorekeeper.

§          Stopped on Penalties to allow Referees to communicate with scorekeeper.

§          Time Out’s

§          Puck/Ball shot out of play, stoppage is based on discretion of Referee.

§          Serious injury (discretion of the referee.)

§          2 minute half time break. The teams switch sides.

§          3-minute running time Overtime period if the score is tied after regulation.  Clock does not stop except for time out during overtime periods.  Shoot out, one for one up to five, competitions will be used if after the overtime period, the score is still tied. 

§          One timeout per team per game. If the timeout is not used during regulation, it is still available during overtime. Should the timeout be used during regulation, it is not available to be used during the overtime period. A timeout may not be used to warm up a goaltender.

§          Mercy Rule: A 10 goal lead will result in running time and no further stats will be taken other than penalties. Teams Are encouraged to continue to play for the allotted time slot. The teams scheduled will have exclusive use of the rink for that time slot.

§          To play a League Game, A team must present at least 1 Dressed Goalie and 2 Skaters or no goalie and 5 skaters, if not the team forfeits the game. During the forfeit, the teams who are scheduled to play have exclusive use of the rink, for practice or a pick or half-court up game.  Teams may be expelled from league play for excessive forfeits with no refund of their fees.  Forfeits will be recorded as 1 – 0.

§          The team of each game assigned the “Home” side must provide two game pucks to the referees prior to play.

§          Three Coaches are allowed on the bench.  One coach must be over 18 years of age.  Under 18 years of age must wear a helmet and full face shield/cage.

§          Games cancelled due to inclement weather are posted on the web site no less than two (2) hours before the game or event begins. 

 

Uniforms & Equipment

§          Each player of a given team must have a matching color jersey with individual permanent 8” Min Iron On type numbers on the back. This rule will be enforced at the 3rd game. Should a player not have the proper jersey, he will be unable to play until a time in which his jersey is in compliance with the rest of the team.

§          All players must wear a HECC certified helmet, gloves, elbow pads, shin guards, pants (no jeans or street pants) that cover the shin pads, and jerseys that cover the elbow pads. NO shin pads or elbow pads are allowed to be shown.   Youth players must wear a mouth guard and cage or full shield.

§          No colored tape or stick is allowed if it marks the floor. If a player is found using a stick that marks the floor, the Referee will remove it from the game. Should the player return with the same stick, he will receive a minor penalty for illegal equipment.

§          Only HECC certified helmets are allowed. Any helmet not in compliance with the HECC certification will be asked to leave and may only return to the game with a HECC certified helmet.

§          Brakes on skates are not allowed.

§          Any stick that shows sign of splinting, upon discretion of the referee, may be removed from the game and not returned until taped and inspected by the referee.

 

Miscellaneous

§          ALL Players and Coaches MUST sign waivers prior to participation.  Spectators are welcome to watch, but understand the dangers of flying pucks or sticks.  Spectators will hold harmless the Zrink for inadvertent contact from pucks or sticks.

§          After game 4, the rosters are closed. A maximum of 14 players + Goalie are allowed on the session roster. Players must play a minimum of 5 games to be eligible to compete in the playoffs and championship.  Challenges to this rule must be submitted in writing, 24 hours before the game begins.

§          Adult teams may use a substitute goalie from any other team in their division, or lower.  In youth leagues, the goalie must be age-appropriate for the league.

§          Away teams must wear pinnies, if needed.

§          The Home team may provide an IPOD to be played providing that they do not contain improper language.

§          If a referee smells any alcohol on a players breath, the player will be asked to leave.  The consumption of alcoholic beverages on ZRINK property is strictly forbidden.

§          Teams are in charge of their fans.  Teams may be penalized if fans get out of control.

 

Summary of Playing Rules

§          No Icing and No Off sides.

§          Minor Penalties are 2-minutes and Double Minors are 4-minutes from the drop of the puck.

§          Major Penalties are 5-Minutes from the drop of the puck. ALL Major Penalties come with an automatic game misconduct.

§          Misconduct Penalties are 10-Minutes but are not a power play man advantage.

§          Coincidental Minors: When 1 minor is called on players from each team at the same stoppage of play. The result is a 2 minute penalty for each player. This is an offsetting penalty that keeps the teams at even strength, or at what ever strength the teams were at prior to the penalty. Since this is not a power play situation, the time does not go up on the penalty clock, and both players must serve the full 2 minutes, then wait for the next whistle stoppage of play. Should a player return to the surface prior to the next whistle, he will receive another minor penalty for “Too Many Men” .

§          All face off’s are only taken at face-off dots.

§          All penalties called against a team in their offensive zone, the face-off will take place at the High face-off dot inside their zone.

§          A Hand Pass is allowed in the defensive zone only if pass is started and completed in the zone. A Hand Pass in the offensive zone will result in a stoppage of play with the ensuing face-off at the High Dot inside the zone.

§          Stick Slamming: ANY PLAYER AGGRESSIVELY SLAMMING HIS STICK ON ANY PART OF THE ZRINK FACILITY (SURFACE, WALLS, GLASS, GOAL, NET, BENCH, ANYTHING) WILL BE ASSESSED A TEN MINUTE MISCONDUCT PENALTY  AND POSSIBLE SUSPENSION.

§          In the Crease: A player in the crease during play may receive a verbal warning during play. However, any goal scored while an offensive player, or part of his stick, is in the crease will result in the goal being waived, and the ensuing face-off to be at the High Dot.

§          High Sticking: A player may raise their stick to call for a pass.  Should a player, with their stick above their shoulders contact an opposing player, then a High Sticking Penalty will be assessed. Any High Sticking Penalty that causes an injury to an opposing player may, upon the discretion of the Referee, be accessed a Major and a Game Misconduct.

§          Fighting: Any player who initiates a fight will receive a Major Penalty, Game Misconduct, and shall also be suspended from the rink for a three week minimum.   Any Player involved in a fight initiated by another player will receive a Major Penalty, Game misconduct and a minimum one game suspension for the next scheduled game for that team. All Game Misconducts are subject for review pending additional suspension time.    

§          A Minor or Double Minor penalty shall  be assessed to a player who, having been struck, retaliates with a punch or an attempted punch. However, at the discretion of the Referee, a major penalty shall be assessed if the player continues in the altercation.

§          Coincidental Majors are cancelled out and are not served.

 

Suspensions

Suspensions are determined by the ZRINK Disciplne committee.  Determinations are typically made within 48 hours of the game following the guidelines below: 

 

§          3 Penalties in 1 game results in a game misconduct. A misconduct does not count as 1 of the 3.

§          3 Game Misconducts results in a 1 Game Suspension.

§          30 Penalty Minutes accumulated over a season results in a 1 game suspension. If a player reaches 40 minutes, it’s an additional 1 game suspension. Minutes do not carry over into the playoffs or into the following season. Minutes from Misconducts do not count towards the total number of penalty minutes.

§          A Game Misconduct for Abuse of an Official may carry a 1 game suspension or more.

§          All suspensions must be served on the next scheduled game of that team, and may include other teams on other nights of play, including playoffs and championships. Suspensions of the offending player will be carried into the next season, or the next game in future seasons.  Two suspensions within the same season may result in expulsion.

§          Threatening or assaulting any employee or referee of ZRINK will result in a minimum of a one year suspension.

 

Ejections

§          All Players receiving Game Misconducts are ejected from the game, but may stay on the property to watch the remainder of the game ONLY IF they can do so while exhibiting behavior deemed acceptable to the ZRINK Staff and Referees.  Misconduct off the rink will result in assessed penalties that will carry forward to future games and sessions if necessary, and could ultimately result in the permanent suspension of a player’s privileges.
